New is a beautiful word.
It covers the past and breathes hope over the future.
New points us in another direction. New redirects our path. New restores a life.
Spring is new in action. Rebirth meets new life. Hard earth melts and gives way for new growth and this is the grace of God. This is the promise He keeps.
He is making me new.
He calls softly to me through the newness of spring. He tugs at my heart and whispers love to my soul. His song is light, and warmth, and color.
The spring comes full of promise every year and there’s nothing you or I or anyone can do about it. It’s all in His hands.
The same is true of you and me. The newness He grows in us comes regardless of what has been spoken by others. It comes regardless of our past. It comes in spite of our broken places. It comes because He wills it to come.
This change, this new, this wonderful hope of spring eternal. Of living water. Of a well that will not run dry.
God instead invites us into a beautiful, scandalously grace-filled relationship. Within this bond he remakes us not by breaking our wills but by lovingly shaping us like a potter molding clay.
Like the warmth of spring melts the hard earth, so too God softens our hardened hearts. As He molds us and remakes us we learn to trust Him. We learn to see Him. We learn to follow Him closer. And this, this is the secret of how new happens. In the daily dullness of our lives the light of the SON comes breaking through revealing who we were created to be. The shadows of the past disappear in the brightness. The broken places become smooth in His warm capable hands and we… We are restored.
Breathe it in, friends. Dare yourself to go outside and breath in the freshness of the spring that is coming- is here, and allow yourself to believe and receive the new thing you have become. Arms wide open. Breathe it all in.
A New Prayer:
Father in Heaven, I am so grateful for the way your love changes me. I am so in awe of your power and your majesty. Renew my heart today, Lord. Restore my faith. Melt away the hardness of winter and breathe new life into my soul.
In Jesus precious name, Amen.
