Rain
She is thankful.
She is thankful for rain.
The way it falls like tiny beads of glass,
Sparkling this way and that.
The way it sounds as it gushes forth from the overflowing gutters.
Oh how she loves those gutters and how they overflow.
They remind her of the way that love is supposed to overflow from her heart
Spilling all over on all those that get close enough.
That’s how it’s supposed to work
True, she realizes it doesn’t work that way nearly often enough,
But she’s happy for the reminder of what should be.
She can’t see rain without seeing God’s Word come to life.
The scriptures are full of references to rain.
“Let my teaching fall like rain and my words descend like dew,
Like showers on new grass, like abundant rain on tender plants.”
Deuteronomy 32:2
“When the kings face brightens, it means life;
his favor is like a rain cloud in spring.”
Proverbs 16:15
She has learned that the rain in the scriptures isn’t just referring to water falling from the sky.
No, it’s so much more than that.
The rain is symbolic of God’s Spirit.
And that is why she loves the rain.
The words of a favorite song fall in and out of her thoughts.
“Water like a promise.
In this final hour I think my final prayer shall be,
Would you let it rain?
Let your spirit fall afresh on me.
Let it rain. Lord, we’re waiting for your rain to fall.
Let it rain. Bringing back the wonder of it all.
And I can see your face again.
When you let it rain.”
Let it Rain, Newsboys
For her, the rain is so much more than rain.
She can’t see it, feel it, smell it, or hear it
Without being reminded that the Spirit of God is all around her.
She smiles and takes another sip of hot coffee.
She lives in Southwest Washington.
She witnesses this reminder often.
And she is so thankful.
Father in Heaven, thank you for your Spirit which you willingly pour out, like rain, all over us. Thank you for an abundant rain that causes overflowing gutters. Thank you for the rain that brings forth the new life and new growth of spring. Thank you for sending such abundant rain to me today. I pray Lord, that just as the rain is falling and covers everything outside my window, so too your Holy Spirit would fall and cover the whole earth with your glory. In Jesus name, amen.
(Dropping in from Thankful Thursday.) This is a beautifully-written post, accompanied by a beautiful photograph. I love your biblical quotes about rain. Shalom, Rebecca

Thank you Kate!
I so enjoyed how you brought scripture to “life”. Who knew there were so many verses using rain!
Thanks so much!
How beautifully written Jennifer! Here in AZ we don’t see much rain so when we do, we are incredibly grateful for it too! Thanks for the visit over at Truly Lovely by the way! 🙂 Happy Wednesday!
